Chicago Area Could See Severe Storms Friday Afternoon

It was a calm Friday morning for the Chicago area but the threat for potentially severe storms is on the way.

Sunny skies in the morning will give way to increasing clouds in the afternoon with showers and thunderstorms developing in far northwest counties around 3 p.m. or 4 p.m. in the afternoon, then gradually sliding southeast across the metro area through the evening.

A few strong to possibly severe storms are possible in far southwestern counties. In advance of the rain, it will be breezy and mild with seasonable temps in the mid to upper 60s, but low 70s in far southern areas.

Temps will start falling from north to south in the late afternoon and evening as rain arrives and cold front slides through, winds gusting upwards of 15 mph.

Friday night showers and thunderstorms continue moving east out of the metro area and end around midnight in northwest Indiana; turning windy and much cooler overnight. Lows in the mid to upper 30s inland, but low 40s in the city and NW Indiana.

Saturday will be partly to mostly cloudy with a few passing sprinkles possible; blustery and chilly for the season with afternoon temps struggling to reach the low 50s – almost 20 degrees below the average of 70 degrees.

With skies clearing overnight Saturday, temps will drop into the low and mid 30s inland with patchy frost possible.

Sunday is expected to be sunny to mostly cloudy with a few sprinkles possible, continued breezy and still cool for the season. Highs in the low to mid 50s.

To start the work week, Monday begins mostly cloudy, breezy and cool with another round of showers developing late.
