Students Send Letters of Appreciation to Mathematician Katherine Johnson After Seeing 'Hidden Figures'

Students from a suburban high school were taken by faculty to see "Hidden Figures," a critically-acclaimed film depicting the significant impact black female mathematicians had on NASA’s rocket program. The students then wrote letters of appreciation to one of the real-life mathematicians--who happened to be a relative of one of the students. LeeAnn Trotter reports.

When Kristian Helton proposed to Karsyn Long on Valentine's Day, he didn't put the ring in a velvet box. Instead, he tucked the ring into a McDonald's chicken nugget box with a note that asked, "Will you McMarry me??"  "Her love for chicken nuggets, I'm sure, is more than she loves me," Helton said. "She has devoted her life to chicken nuggets, so that had to be part of the engagement."
