Wrong-Way Driver Crashes With Truck on Kennedy Expressway

Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Rodney Collins said alcohol may have been a factor in the crash

A man suffered minor injuries when he drove his minivan the wrong way on Interstate 94, the Kennedy Expressway, and collided with a tractor trailer early Tuesday morning.

The man drove south onto the northbound exit at North Avenue about 12:30 a.m. and went about 25 yards before the minivan crashed head-on into a semi, Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Rodney Collins said.

The minivan’s driver was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with minor injuries, according to state police. His name and age were not released as of 6 a.m.

His vehicle hadn’t picked up much speed and the driver of the semi tried to merge left to avoid the collision, Collins said.

Collins said alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.

No citations or charges had been issued as of 4 a.m. as state police continued their investigation.
