The southbound lanes of the Bishop Ford Freeway near 159th street were closed to traffic Tuesday afternoon.
A tractor trailer carrying aluminum pipes overturned on the portion of Interstate 94 in South Holland and spilled its load. Traffic was being diverted, according to a tweet from the Illinois Department of Transportation.
Video from NBC Chicago's helicopter showed the material strewn about the roadway. Crews were still attempting to clear up the mess at 3 p.m.
