Beginning Monday, riders of Metra's Rock Island and Electric District lines will be able to use credit cards at some downtown stations.
Ticket sellers will accept plastic at the LaSalle, Millennium Park and Van Buren stations.
Beginning Jan. 18, credit cards will be taken at Union Station and the Ogilvie Transportation Center.
Next month, credit cards will be accepted at suburban stations with ticket agents and at machines at 14 Metra Electric District stations.
In February, outlying Metra stations will also start taking credit cards.
Metra last year rolled out a new Web site that allowed riders to buy tickets online, but only if bought far enough in advance to be delivered by mail.
