Semi Catches Fire on Kennedy Expressway

Ray Carl

The inbound, local lanes of the Kennedy Expressway -- Interstates 90 and 94 -- were blocked Wednesday morning near the Division Street exit after a tractor-trailer caught fire.

The fire broke out shortly after 4 a.m., Illinois State Police said.

The trailer was being towed away by 5 a.m. but cleanup was expected to take several hours.

All inbound lanes of the expressway were reopened as of 5:15 a.m. but the ramp to Division Street remained closed.

No injuries were reported.
