A Chicago woman without a driver's license faces several charges following a fatal crash that killed four people and injured four others Thursday morning.
Officials say a 2003 Silver Ford Explorer traveling at a high rate of speed rolled off Interstate 290 at Addison Road and into a ditch at 6:08 a.m.
All of those killed were female, officials said. Three of them were ejected from the vehicle. A fourth was sitting in the front seat. Another female, the driver, Margot Santillan, and three males suffered injuries ranging from non-life threatening to serious. All of the victims were adults, and officials said preliminary information indicated they all worked for a temporary agency and were on their way to work.
Santillan, 31, is charged with improper lane usage, failure to reduce speed, no valid driver's licence, insurance, and a suspended registration for no insurance.
"Speed and lack of seatbelt use were definitely the cause of this crash," said Lt. Brian Windle.
The SUV rolled several times before landing on its roof in a wooded area.
The westbound lanes were reopened shortly before noon.
