Man Dead in Dan Ryan Rollover Crash

Roadway was closed until about 5 a.m.

A man from south suburban Chicago died in a two-vehicle rollover crash on Interstate 94 on the city's south side, police said.

First responders were called to the interstate near 87th Street just before 1 a.m., Illinois State Police officials said.

Two cars were traveling southbound in the center lane when the rear vehicle, driven by a 41-year-old man, struck the car in front of it causing the front vehicle to spin and strike the left concrete-barrier wall, police said. The six occupants inside of the front vehicle, whose ages were not immediately known, were not injured.

The SUV, which carried only 41-year-old Deon Brooks, veered to the right off the roadway and up the embankment, where it rolled over, authorities said.

Brooks, of the 12000 block of Lincoln Street in south suburban Calumet Park, was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:35 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

Three lanes of the Dan Ryan were closed for nearly four hours, but all lanes were reopened by 4:45 a.m., police said.
