Man Killed in West Englewood Crash

Driver ran a red light, struck another vehicle at about 12:35 a.m., police said

A man was killed early Friday morning in a two-vehicle crash in Chicago's West Englewood neighborhood.

A 23-year-old man driving a silver van south on Damen near 69th Street at about 12:35 a.m. failed to stop at a red light and struck an SUV that was westbound on 69th Street, police said. The man driving the van hit a pole before stopping, police said.

The driver of the silver van was taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where he later died, police said. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office couldn't confirm the fatality as of 7 a.m.

The driver of the SUV -- a male whose age was not immediately known -- was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center and listed in stable condition, police said.

The Chicago Police Department's Major Accidents Investigation Unit was called in to investigate the crash.
