Speeding Van Crashes Into Bus, Parked Vehicles

Police say a van sped away when they tried to pull the driver over for blowing a stop sign at West 47th Street and South Wolcott Avenue

A man was taken into custody Tuesday night after he led police on a chase and crashed into five parked vehicles and a Chicago Transit Authority bus in the Southwest Side New City neighborhood.

Officers on patrol in the Deering District said they saw a 2003 Ford van blow a stop sign about 10 p.m. near West 47th Street and South Wolcott Avenue.

The car took off when police tried to pull the driver over.

The vehicle later struck five parked vehicles and a CTA bus in the 4700 block of South Talman, police said. The bus driver, the only person injured, was taken to Holy Cross Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the van, a 36-year-old man, was taken into custody, police said.

Charges were pending as of 6 a.m. Wednesday.
