Lake Shore Drive Closes Sunday for “Bike the Drive” Event

Last year more than 20,000 cyclists signed up for the event organized by the Active Transportation Alliance

Chicago's Lake Shore Drive will be closed Sunday to all traffic aside from that powered by pedal in the annual Bike the Drive event.

Last year more than 20,000 cyclists signed up for the event organized by the Active Transportation Alliance.

The event, considered by riders as the one day where bikers reign on Lake Shore Drive, closes several miles of the roadway to cars from about 5:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.

Proceeds from the event, sponsored by MB Financial Bank, funds projects to make biking and transportation safer in the Chicago area and provide opportunities for economical transportation.

Those who haven't yet registered for the event may do so at BiketheDrive.org. Day-of registration costs $63.
