Shots Fired at Trucker on Dan Ryan Expressway

Trucker Matt Mackey with Dayton Freight Lines said he was traveling northbound on the Dan Ryan -- Interstate 90 -- when a gold Chevroley Impala drive up beside him

Illinois State Police were working Tuesday morning to reopen lanes and ramps that were closed after shots were fired at a tractor trailer traveling on the Dan Ryan Expressway.

Trucker Matt Mackey with Dayton Freight Lines said he was traveling northbound on the Dan Ryan -- Interstate 90 -- at about 2:45 a.m. when a gold Chevroley Impala drive up beside him.

"I was coming down the bridge. The Impala pulled up on my driver's side, and he slammed on the brakes, got behind me and then came up on the passenger side and started shooting," Mackey said.

Mackey wasn't hurt but the truck was hit by bullets. Engine or transmission fluid leaked onto the expressway when Mackey pulled over near Madison Street.

First responders closed both directions of the interstate as well as several ramps, including those to West Lake Street, West Madison Street, and West Roosevelt Road. Two inbound lanes of the interstate were still closed as of 5:30 a.m., but traffic was slowly getting by on remaining lanes.

The driver of the Impala drove off and was not in custody as of 5:30 a.m.
