Van Drives Into Home, Leaves Massive Hole

Neighbor suspects driver had a medical emergency

Five people were inside a Carol Stream home but were not injured when a minivan crashed completely into the house on Thursday afternoon.

The vehicle traveled across a grassy lawn, struck the fencing of a pool and went completely into the two-story home in the 600 block of Bluff Street, leaving a massive hole in the building and first responders wondering exactly what went wrong.

Authorities declined to offer a confirmation, but a neighbor said it appeared the driver, identified by officials as Deborah Ginino, had some sort of medical emergency. She was taken to the hospital for treatment.

"The woman slumped back in her chair with her head up, so you could tell there was something physically wrong with this woman," said June Kowalewski.

One person was removed from the home but their condition was not immediately known. A little girl in the backseat of the minivan was not injured.

Crews pushed the van out of the home at about 5:30 p.m. Thursday. No charges had been filed as of 9:30 a.m. Friday.
