Wrong-Way Driver Charged in Second Case

The man drove eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-290, police said

A Chicago driver veered toward the same potentially deadly mistake twice, Illinois State Police said.

Victor Rocha, 34, of the 1500 block of South Sangamon, was arrested around 2:30 a.m. Thursday for driving the wrong way on I-290 while under the influence, according to a police statement.

Rocha also faces charges for driving the wrong way while drunk at the intersection of Orleans and Superior streets in Chicago in 2010.

In the latest incident, police said Rocha drove eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-290 and merged northbound onto the ramp from I-90 southbound.

An IDOT truck stopped Rocha's 2009 silver Hyundai and an Illinois State trooper arrived minutes later.

Rocha is charged with felony aggravated driving under the influence, driving the wrong way and operating a vehicle without a license.

"The real tragedy here is that this is the second time this driver has violated the law and endangered the public safety of others," said District Chicago Captain Luis Gutierrez in a statement.
