A Chicago woman says she was forced to take quick action after catching a man trying take pictures under her skirt on a Chicago Transit Authority train on Tuesday.
The 26-year-old woman, who asked that her name not be used, said she has just got on the train at the Belmont Avenue Red Line stop at about 6:45 p.m. when she felt a man standing very close to her.
"His hand was just kind of too close to my pelvic area and I kind of twisted away," the woman said.
That's when she said she noticed the man holding a black plastic bag with a hole in it and what appeared to be a lens inside.
"I looked down and saw a shiny thing poking out of his bag, and just kind of thought in the back of my mind, 'What if that's an upskirt camera?'"
She grabbed the bag and the camera and yelled for help.
"He was trying to negotiate with me, 'What if I just give you the memory card?'" she said.
She says many of the other passengers just stared and didn't offer to help, but some passengers finally intervened at the Addison stop and held the man down until police arrived.
Angel Ramirez Diaz, 36, was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor count of unauthorized videotaping through clothes. He was released after posting bond.
"People are telling me to wear pants, wear spandex under your skirt. Why should I have to do that? Maybe you should stop being creepy," the woman said.
"If you see something, say something, and if you see someone who looks like they're in need of help, help out," she said.
