Lake Shore Drive Reopened After Suspicious Package

Lake Shore Drive was closed between Wilson and Foster avenues

An all-clear has been issued after Chicago Police shut down a portion of Lake Shore Drive Wednesday afternoon for a suspicious package found in the Uptown neighborhood.

North and southbound lanes of Lake Shore Drive were closed between Wilson and Foster avenues for more than an hour beginning around 1 p.m. Sky5 helicopter video of the scene showed vehicles being rerouted off the drive in both directions, causing major backups.

Police News Affairs said the package was discovered at Lawrence Avenue and Lake Shore Drive.

As of 2:20 p.m. southbound lanes were reopened. Northbound lanes were reopened about 10 minutes later.

Details weren't immediately known about the object, but remote-controlled robots were seen investigating and pulling apart a blue bag. Bomb and Arson units were on the scene.

Police confirmed the bag contained a sleeping bag.
