Suburban Road Closed for Repairs After Collapse

A suburban road will be closed indefinitely after part of the road suddenly collapsed Friday, leaving a large hole across the entire road.

The Lake County Division of Transportation said a culvert under Diamond Lake Road at Indiana Creek in Long Grove collapsed and the road will remain closed until repairs are complete.

“With the heavy rains we’ve had this year, the culvert deteriorated more quickly than expected,” the department said in a statement. “At this time, it is hard to estimate the length of time needed for this closure because pipes this size must be custom ordered.”

The culvert was scheduled to be replaced next summer, with the repair being finished before the start of the 2016-17 school year.

Traffic is being rerouted from Gilmer Road and Route 45 to Route 83.

The road remained blocked off Monday.
