Union Pacific trains were back on track Friday morning, but not before thousands of commuters suffered delays and frustration at the height of Thursday night's rush hour.

A power outage forced service in the company's northern region to shut down, Metra officials said.  Metra train on the Union Pacific West, Northwest and North Lines were halted by the outage.

The Chicago Transit Authority  honored Metra tickets Thursday evening to help riders get to their destinations.

Metra updates the status of its trains on its Web site, MetraRail.com.
