Pace Bus to Increase Shoulder Usage on Stevenson Expressway

Plan to reduce crowding and travel time, Pace adjusts services

Pace buses that drive on the shoulder are such a big hit, the suburban transit system is adding to two bus routes.

The “bus-on-shoulders” program began in November 2011, and sincethe buses were granted by the state legislature the power to bypass traffic jams by driving on the shoulder, their on-time arrival went up from 68-percent to 92 percent.

Pace routes 755 and 855 will undergo new and modified runs along the shoulder lanes of the Stevenson Expressway beginning on April 9.

The 755, which runs three times per day, will extend its route to Union Station. The 855 will add an aditional inbound and outbound trip to Loop and North Michigan Avenue route.

A few of the trips will have slight schedule changes but the one-way fares for both routes will remain at $4.00.
