Pedestrian Struck by Amtrak Train in Hinsdale

A pedestrian was struck by an Amtrak train Tuesday afternoon in west suburban Hinsdale, delaying trains on Metra’s BNSF line.

About 2:30 p.m., Southwest Chief Train #4 hit someone trespassing along BNSF tracks in Hinsdale, according to an Amtrak spokesman.

The person’s condition was not immediately known. No one on the train was hurt.

The train, originally scheduled to arrive in Chicago at 3:15 p.m., remained stopped as of 3:30 p.m. as crews cleared the scene.

Trains in both directions were temporarily halted near the West Hinsdale station after the crash, but were on the move with delays up to 40 minutes as of 4 p.m.
