    A man was shot while driving with a child in the backseat of the vehicle Monday morning on I-294 near south suburban Markham. NBC 5's Christian Farr reports. (Published Monday, Oct. 19, 2015)

    A man was shot while driving with a child in the backseat of the vehicle Monday morning on I-294 near south suburban Markham.

    The man was driving a red Chevrolet Impala in the northbound lanes of I-294 near 159th Street at 9:13 a.m. when shots were fired, according to Illinois State Police.

    Police said the man had a traffic altercation with a minivan, and the driver of the minivan fired into the Chevy, striking the driver. 

    The man pulled off the highway at Plaza 41 to call police. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

    The child in the back suffered no apparent injuries.

    Two right lanes of the interstate were closed as Illinois State Police investigated the shooting.
