A man was found dead on CTA Red Line tracks early Monday in Chicago's Loop.

The man — thought to be in his 50s or 60s — was discovered by officers about 12:35 a.m. near the Harrison stop in the 600 block of South State Street, police said.

The man was unresponsive upon police arrival. The Cook County medical examiner’s office confirmed the death, but did not release further details.

Authorities said the man was believed to have been chasing after a beach ball.

Area Central detectives were conducting a death investigation.

Howard-bound Red Line trains were bypassing the Harrison stop early Monday morning and trains to 95th were rerouted between the Fullerton and Chinatown stations via elevated tracks, according to the CTA. Trains resumed normal service just before 3:30 a.m.
