I-PASS Glitch Triggers Customer Charges

"We apologize to our I-PASS customers who may have been surprised by this account activity."

Tollway commuters may want to check their bank accounts.

The I-PASS system on Friday morning experienced a "software issue" that accidentally started a cycle of erroneous charges and refunds to customer accounts scheduled for automatic balance replenishment, according to the Illinois Tollway.

"We are currently working to ensure that all I-PASS automatic replenishment accounts have been correctly refunded," Tollway officials said in a statement. The Tollway said it's also working with its banks to make sure no overdraft fees were incurred by customers from erroneous charges.

"We apologize to our I-PASS customers who may have been surprised by this account activity."

The Tollway is alerting customers who may have been impacted. Anyone who notices mistaken charges or has questions about their account is asked to call the Customer Call Center at 1-800-UC-IPASS.
