Chicago Gas Prices Spike

Average price per gallon in Chicago hits $3.497

If you filled up your tank Friday, it probably cost you a little more than usual.

Gas prices across the country are up six cents since Thursday, according to the AAA motor club.

The overnight spike ups the average price of gas in Chicago to $3.497 per gallon. The national average is lower at $3.287 per gallon.

The last time gas was this expensive was in October 2008.

The rising cost of fuel also means that airfares are up. United Airlines added $20 to the price of most domestic round trip tickets Wednesday and by Thursday afternoon, American, Delta and U.S. Airways had followed suit.

Gas prices are predicted to keep rising this weekend.
