Wacker Drive Construction Begins Final Phase

A new set of road closures and bus reroutes kicks off the final phase of construction

The final phase of a nearly three-year Chicago construction project begins.

The last steps in the $300 million Wacker Drive reconstruction project starts Monday with a new set of road closures and bus reroutes.

Jackson Boulevard is closed at Wacker Driver, but Monroe Street is now open to eastbound traffic. Adams Street remains closed while Van Buren becomes a two-way street on Friday.

Southbound access from Lower Wacker Drive to Upper Wacker at Randolph Street also is closed, and access is shut down to and from Congress Parkway from Wacker Drive.

In addition to road closures, 18 Chicago Transit Authority buses are affected by the new phase of construction. Routes closed by the Monroe reconstruction will reopen, while those using Adams and Jackson will be rerouted.

The $300 million project of Upper and Lower Wacker between Randolph Street and Congress Parkway is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
