Shooting, Crash Shut Down EB Eisenhower Expressway During Rush Hour: Police

A shooting and crash shut down all eastbound lanes of the Eisenhower Expressway for much of Tuesday afternoon's rush hour. 

Illinois State Police confirmed there was a shooting on Interstate 290 near Morgan Street just after 3 p.m. It is the 11th shooting on I-290 this year and 45th overall on Chicago expressways, Illinois State Police confirmed.

Police reported a single-vehicle crash on the roadway but while responding, officers found a person shot in the abdomen. The driver was transported to an area hospital for treatment but their condition was not known. 

Another person in the vehicle suffered a broken leg when the vehicle crashed into a median wall following the shooting. 

I-290 eastbound at Morgan Street was closed temporarily while police investigated the shooting. Traffic was being diverted at Racine Avenue. 

Just before 5:30 p.m., some lanes were reopening. 

Police said an investigation into the shooting remained ongoing and no one was in custody as of 6 p.m.
