Man Held on $250K in Humboldt Park Hit-and-Run

Abel Vicente, passenger arrested shortly after crash, police say

A Southwest side man charged in connection with a west side hit-and-run was ordered held on $250,000 bond Tuesday.

Abel Vicente, of the 900 block of South Mayfield Avenue, is charged with three counts of aggravated DUI, police said.

Vicente, 19, was speeding down the 1600 block of North Humboldt Drive when he struck three girls who were crossing the street, police said. He drove off and later struck a median. After crashing, he ran away from the car but was later caught by police, they said.

The girls are between the ages of 15 and 19, police said.

The most seriously injured is Melissa Quintana, who remains in critical condition at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

"They're real lucky. People need to appreciate life right now because the way things are going now it's not good out here on the streets," her brother, Javier Quintana Jr., said Monday.

The two other girls are recovering at Mount Sinai Hospital.

Police said they found Puerto Rican flags and broken sunglasses in the intersection after the accident. The passenger in the hit-and-run may be charged with failing to report an accident, said police.
