A 37-year-old man was shot and critically injured Friday morning on Chicago's North Side in what police describe as a "road rage incident."
Police News Affairs confirmed someone fired into another SUV as two vehicles were traveling on the 4400 block of West Sunnyside just before 6 a.m. in the Jefferson Park neighborhood. The drivers apparently then chased each other and eventually collided at the intersection of Foster and Nagle avenues, police said.
It's not clear who initiated the incident characterized as road rage.
The man was shot in the back and taken to Lutheran General Hospital in critical condition, according to officials. The occupants in the other vehicle fled the scene, and no one is in custody.
Chicago Fire Department officials said another man was taken to a local hospital, but police could not confirm the second injury.
Neighbors told NBC Chicago they heard six or seven shots fired and heard someone in a white Cadillac Escalade yell "Go, go!"
The vehicle was seen at the corner of Nagle and Foster with the windows shot up and bullet holes on the side.
Police ordered the investigation of three separate intersections, including at Nagle and Avondale avenues and at Sunnyside and Lavergne where the shooting began.
