Still need to purchase a Chicago city sticker for your vehicle? You're in luck.
City Clerk Susana Mendoza on Monday announced a two-week grace period for motorists to purchase and display their new sticker. Though stickers officially expire June 30, Chicagoans now have until Tuesday, July 15. Ticketing begins on July 16.
“Just as we do every year, we are honoring the Chicago City Vehicle Sticker grace period through July 15," Mendoza said. "We truly want to help people avoid tickets at all costs and the best way to do that is to get your vehicle sticker in the next two weeks.”
Mendoza also pushed back the recommended last day to buy a sticker online, from June 30 to July 7. Those who purchase their sticker online by the end of the day July 7 should receive their sticker by mail by July 15.
There is no extra fee for buying a sticker online.
“We’re making fundamental changes to a 100-year-old program ensure this is the last time customers have to be inconvenienced by long lines," Mendoza said.
Motorists face a minimum $200 fine for failing to purchase a sticker plus a $60 late fee.
