A car fire shut down all lanes of southbound Interstate 57 near Matteson Friday.
The accident happened near Vollmer road during the evening rush hour as the long holiday weekend began.
Traffic was seen backed up for miles just south of Interstate 80.
It was not immediately clear if there were any injuries, but fire officials were at the scene.
