5 Hurt in Serious LaPorte County Crash Identified

The accident happened around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday on U.S. 421 near Alida Road just south of Westville, Indiana

Five people who were injured in a serious crash in LaPorte County Tuesday have been identified.

Police on Wednesday said 43-year-old Vincent Fischer, of Valparaiso, 40-year-old Logan Fischer and 10-year-old Duncan Fischer were the most seriously injured in the crash and were flown by medical helicopters from the scene.

Cheyenne Fischer, 17, and 44-year-old Patrick Michaels, of Wanatah, Indiana, were also hurt in the crash and taken to area hospitals by ambulance. Their conditions were not immediately known.

The accident happened around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday on U.S. 421 near Alida Road just south of Westville, Indiana.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a truck driven by Vincent Fischer was left of the centerline while traveling southbound on U.S. 421 when his car hit a northbound Ford Expedition driven by Michaels, according to the LaPorte County Sheriff's office.

Police said it’s unclear why Fischer’s vehicle crossed the centerline, but neither alcohol nor drugs are believed to be a factor in the crash.

The crash shutdown the roadway for several hours Tuesday.

Investigators are searching for the driver of a northbound vehicle, possibly a Dodge Neon, that was reportedly just ahead of Michaels’ car before the crash.

Anyone that may have witnessed the crash is asked to call Detective Scott Boswell at (219) 326-7700 extension 2443.
