AKIRA Plans 10th Anniversary Bash

Bucktown stores to transform into Bazaar theme

A Chicago retail success story celebrates 10 years in business this weekend.

AKIRA is ringing in the milestone the best way they know how -- an anniversary party with a Bazaar theme at its three Bucktown boutiques on July 21 from 1-8 p.m.

The women's boutique will be decked out in a palace theme, the shoe store becomes a hookah garden and the men's store transforms into a desert oasis.

Be on the lookout for belly dancers, fortune tellers, and yes, roving camels all along the stretch of North Avenue, along with plenty of cocktails and clothing discounts.

Guests will also get a chance to win $1,800 in prizes, including jewelry.

AKIRA was founded by a trio of friends who went to the University of Illinois together, Jon Cotay, Eric Hsueh and Errika Wang (whose first name inspired the store's name).

AKIRA has 17 boutiques in the city and suburbs and plans to open an 18th store in Hyde Park this fall.
