What do you get for the mom who has everything?

Surely your mother deserves something besides a wilted bunch of flowers or a sad box of candy from the grocery store. Step it up this year with baubles, yummy treats, a spa day or a night at the theater with her number-one fan (that's you).

This year, give Mom some sparkle and shine with something special from local jewelry designer Jill Alberts. From Thursday, May 7 through Saturday, May 9 (remember, Mother's Day is Sunday, May 10), you can save big on Alberts' collection of reworked vintage pieces, including customized lockets, earrings, bracelets and rings, along with stunning estate treasures, at Alberts' Highland Park boutique (469 Roger Williams Dr., 847-681-1630, by appointment only). The celebrity favorite (everyone from Carmen Electra, Britney Spears and Jessica Simpson to Sarah Jessica Parker and Glenn Close have worn Alberts' designs) can even scan a photo to wow Mom with one of the lockets of your choosing.

Give your mother the gift of good taste with gourmet goodies galore. Candy is a no-brainer when it comes to Mom's Day, so why not make it the good stuff? Vosges Haut-Chocolat has put together some sumptuous gift boxes for the occasion, including "Les Fleurs du Chocolat," flower-infused truffles topped with edible blossoms; and the "Comfort Food Tower," stacked high with caramel marshmallows, caramel-walnut toffee and organic peanut butter bonbons. All gifts come in Vosges' regal purple packaging fit for a queen (no need for wrapping!). Or, give Mom her daily fix with a prezzie from the newly launched Need Caffeine, an online resource for fine coffees and teas. The site is featuring several Mother's Day gift ideas, including coffee and tea flights priced at 10 percent off, which include three different themed brands. Or you can create personalized labels for bags of Intelligentsia coffee (may we suggest "You Perk Up Every Day, Mom"?).

Rock star moms should get rock star treatment -- treat yours to a pair of $90 tickets to the smash-hit "Jersey Boys" playing at the Bank of America Theatre for a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday performance through June, and you'll score a one-hour massage at Chicagoland Massage Envy locations. Use the code "massage" when purchasing "Jersey Boys" tix on the Ticketmaster site. Tickets must be purchased by May 10 (but you already knew that).
