Help for Homeowners: Another Fix Your Mortgage Event

Attorneys, Housing Counselors and City Volunteers Line Up to Help

This Saturday morning, hundreds of Chicago-area homeowners will get up early and get in line, with documents in hand, hoping to obtain what the federal government told them would be a lifeline to save from foreclosure a significant number of homes across this country. There they will find expert assistance in applying for a loan modifcation via the Home Affordable Modification Program.

The event is planned in cooperation by the City of Chicago, Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago, and Attorneys' Title Guaranty Fund.  This is the fourth of six planned events, with the first three each netting 300 to 700 families who received free assistance.

Details of the 7/24 event:

9:30 AM TO 2 PM
 
 Event organizers offer the following guidance to homeowners interested in attending the FREE event:
 
  • All borrowers whose names are on the loan MUST be present when they apply for a loan modification at the Fix Your Mortgage event. They need to bring copies of the following documents:
    • Two most recent pay stubs 
    • Two most recent bank statements
    • Real estate tax bill 
    • Most recent utility bill
    • Homeowners Insurance bill 
    • Most recent tax return
    • Most recent mortgage statements for both first and second mortgage (if applicable)
    • Account balances and monthly payments on all other debts including: homeowner association/condo fees, credit cards, student or car loans, child support and alimony
    • Profit-loss statement if homeowner is self-employed
    • Proof/documentation of income from any other sources such as alimony, child support (judgment letter); Social Security income (award letter)
    • If homeowner has rental income, he/she must bring: signed lease agreement(s); and rent receipt(s) or signed letter from occupant(s) confirming rent amount(s).
