Check in to a Doggie Hotel

Chicago facility offers pet pampering

For pet lovers, there's no such thing as doing too much for your dog.

Even in a bad economy, Americans spent $2 billion more on their pets in 2008 than the previous year, a total of $46 billion.

Which is why it's not surprising that Chicago's Stay: A Modern Dog Hotel  (4130 North Rockwell St)  is doing so well.

Anywhere from 60 to 70 dogs are at the hotel at any one time, and they offer boarding by the day and overnight.

It's not exactly a new concept, until you look at the extras. Not only can Spot get groomed and trained, the business also offers an indoor pool and a veterinarian spa with therapeutic holistic spa services.

"As people are under more stress with their financial lives, they tend to invest more in the things they love the most," says Michael Heltzer.

Looks like it's definitely a dog's world.
