Yak-Zies 2.0

After two long years, the popular neighborhood hang returns for round two

Yes, you've been able to bide your time at the Wrigleyville location and maybe, if you're really lucky, at the Pompano Beach, Florida outpost. But there's nothing like your first love.

So, thankfully, the original Yak-Zies, that underground den of sports, hot wings, cold beer and zero pretension that first opened way back in 1966, is back where it belongs -- on Diversey Avenue. The bar made its triumphant return this weekend.

Yes, they've spruced things up a bit -- the space is now brighter and updated, with TVs at every table, gleaming cherrywood furnishings and classy pendant lighting. But don't fret, the joint is still teeny-tiny and, most importantly, the hot wings still star on the unchanged menu.

The bar will also retain its late liquor license (11-4 a.m. Sunday through Friday, 11-5 a.m.  Saturday), which is a real boon for this Lakeview neighborhood.

Yak-Zies will present welcome back parties from 5-8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3 through Wednesday, Aug. 5, hosting regulars from the 1960's and '70's on Monday, from the '80's through '90's on Tuesday and the newbies from 2000 to the present on Wednesday. Or, as they say, come in anytime, because, once again, you can.
