Chicago restaurants know that we're being more resourceful with our dollars these days, and several of them have responded in kind by creating enticing deals and discounts that will get us in the door. Here are a few of the latest promising promotions:

At Frankie's Scaloppine & Fifth Floor Pizzeria, tucked into a cozy corner on the fifth floor of the 900 Shops on Michigan Avenue, daily dining discounts abound. Pop in for lunch Monday through Friday, and make your own combo for $6.95. Choose from Frankie's famous chopped salad or minestrone soup, and pair it with specialties such as filet sliders, a chicken Milanese sandwich or baked spaghetti. Or, if you're dining with a group, order up Frankie's "Feast for Four" Monday through Thursday, which offers a 16-inch pizza along with a family-style Caesar salad and tiramisu for $29.95. Vino aficionados can also enjoy $10 bottles of Montepulciano D'Abruzzo Citra on Mondays and Tuesdays at Frankie's.

River North's Zocalo Restaurant and Tequila Bar has rolled out a new late-night dining hook: "Dine at Nine." Night owls can head to this Mexican hotspot after 9PM on Wednesdays for this promotion, which offers the entire menu, including every appetizer, entree and dessert, at 50 percent off, along with half-priced bottles of selected wines. (Psst ... you must mention this offer and note that the restaurant will add a 20 percent gratuity to your tab. Seems only right.)

Shaw's Crab House in Schaumburg recently unveiled its recession buster "Bar Bites Mermaid" menu. From 3PM-6PM daily, feast on classic Shaw's dishes, beers and wines at a deep discount. Highlights include such Shaw's favorites as a variety of oysters on the half-shell ($2.25 each or $6.50 for six), fish tacos ($2.50 each), mini crab cakes ($3.99 for two) and spicy tuna rolls ($4.99). Beer specials include $2 Bud Light Lime and Trumer Pils from Austria, while a list of six wines (one sparkling, three whites and two reds) are all priced at $5.99 per glass.
