Learn to make a Thanksgiving feast at The Chopping Block.

You're not a great cook (heck – you're not even a GOOD cook), so the prospect of preparing Thanksgiving dinner is downright terrifying. But the idea of dining out on Thanksgiving seems somewhat sacrilegious, not to mention the fact that your mother-in-law would give you the eye-roll of the century.  So why not brush up on your skills a bit to make a meal fit to serve the fam?

    Powerhouse Restaurant
(215 N. Clinton St.) is having a Thanksgiving cooking class with executive chef Jeff Mauro on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 11 a.m.   For $40 per person, you can learn how to roast a turkey, prepare spoonbread, braised red cabbage, dried fruit couscous and seasonal desserts.  Just to keep things moving smoothly, they'll serve wine along with recipe samplings.  Call for reservations: 312-928-0800.

And of course The Chopping Block has several hands-on Thanksgiving feast classes at their two locations.  Learn how to make a roast turkey with sage, apple sausage stuffing, bacon-infused green beans and pumpkin pie.  There's also a Vegetarian Thanksgiving Class featuring a potato-turnip caramelized onion gratin and sweet potato pie.  Visit www.thechoppingblock.net to see schedules for both Lincoln Square (4747 N. Lincoln Ave.) and Merchandise Mart (Merchandise Mart Plaza) locations, or call Call 773-472-6700 or 312- 644-6360.
