They say that whatever you do on the first day of the year, that's what you're destined to do every subsequent day of that year. (We're not sure who ''they'' are – all we know is that our parents used this excuse for us to clean our rooms/exercise/eat our vegetables/insert healthy habit here on past New Year's Days during our childhood.) So if you're thinking strategically, you could set the course for a decadently delicious 2009 if you play your cards right. (Nevermind that you're likely to be a little hung over on New Year's Day – we all know that won't be the case every day of the year – at least, we *hope* not)
HotChocolate in Bucktown will be open on Jan. 1, hosting their 2nd annual Pajama Brunch. They say they will be wearing their PJs, so you are welcome to wear yours, as well. What could be better than a year of wearing comfy jammies and slippers, noshing on HotChocolate's delicious brunch menu and sipping their signature hot chocolate beverages? We like the idea of housemade brioche French toast, warm doughnuts and steak and eggs coming our way every day of the year.
So even if the New Year's Day myth isn't true, it doesn't hurt to start the new year on the right foot, now does it? HotChocolate will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Jan. 1; 1747 N. Damen Ave. 773-489-1747.
