Open House: River North's New Public Spot

Public House official opens Thursday

No matter what the state of the economy, River North nightlifers have always shown an insatiable appetite for new spots to grab a brew and watch the game.

And just weeks after the monstrous Moe's Cantina opened to packed crowds, another major player officially hits the RiNo scene Thursday -- Public House.

The former Redfish Cajun Bar & Grill has been converted into a 10,000 square foot venue with two main spaces featuring floor-to-ceiling windows and an additional elevated private dining/party space.

Of course, there's all the accoutrements you'd expect from a sports bar, such as 27 plasma TVs and an 84-inch HD video wall, just in time for the NFL playoffs.

It's all about beer in this spot, with 103 different brands to choose from and 25 on tap, including a customized Goose Island brew.

The traditional American menu offers interesting twists on predictable bar food, with offerings like exotic-flavored Mussel Bowls, Truffle Black Pepper Popcorn, Mini Kobe Corn Dogs and smokehouse favorites like brisket, St. Louis Ribs and Pulled Pork.

The first week of operation offers a series of celebrity hosts and grand opening parties, including DJ Samantha Ronson on Saturday, YouTube sensation Keenan Cahill hosting the Bears game Sunday, and additional appearances by Guiliana Rancic, and Extreme Makeover Home Edition’s Jillian Harris.

And if you're wondering what kind of crowd will be in the house, consider that this is brought to you from the same team behind Bull & Bear.

Your RiNo bar crawl just got a little longer.
