Get Schooled in Sushi

Shaw's Crab House in Schaumburg hosts a sushi and saketini demo and lunch

Learn the Asian arts of sushi rolling, saketini mixing and dining etiquette at a special demonstration and lunch at Shaw's Crab House in Schaumburg on Saturday, Feb. 7 at 11:45AM.

Shaw's sushi chef, Naoki Nakashima, known as an authority on Japanese cuisine and customs, will lead an interactive instruction in Shaw's Oyster Bar from 11:45AM to 12:45PM. Students will participate in the hands-on lesson, learning how to make sushi rice, hand-pressed nigiri sushi and hand-rolled maki using their own individual bamboo sushi mats. Attendees will also be taught how to mix Shaw's signature saketini cocktail.

A sit-down lunch will be served after the demonstration, featuring Shaw's Asian salad and tuna sushi combo, accompanied by one of those saketinis. A discussion on Japanese dining etiquette will take place during the meal, followed by hot Japanese loose leaf tea served with mini sugar cookies. Guests will go home with recipe cards outlining how to make the sushi rice, maki rolls and sugar cookies at home, along with a list of local stores that sell these Japanese products.

Another Japanese sushi demonstration and lunch event, which is priced at $45 per person, will take place at Shaw's Schaumburg location on Saturday, March 7, so don't fret if you miss this one -- or forget to take notes while you're there.
