Get Schooled at Carnivale

The River West Latin fusion restaurant introduces "Carnivale University"

Kids aren't the only ones who will be going back to school this month. You, too, can further your education of the culinary arts by enrolling in "Carnivale University," a fall program featuring cooking and cocktail classes and special dinners highlighting the Latin fusion cuisine the on the menu at the River West restaurant.

Events taking place during "Carnivale University" include everything from "101" level culinary and mixology classes, entertaining seminars and dinners paired with Goose Island beers and Casa Noble tequilas. Carnivale executive chef Mark Mendez, wine director Elizabeth Mendez, mixologist Victor Beheza and a roster of guest instructors will lead the courses. You can sign up for one class or for all of them -- depending on how much homework you want to bring to your kitchen.

The series kicks off on Wednesday, Aug. 12 with a special dinner benefitting Slow Food Chicago, an educational non-profit organization that honors various food cultures and traditions with Chicago roots. Chef Mendez will prepare a four-course meal paired with Goose Island beers. The event will begin at 7 p.m. The cost is $65 per person.

Reservations are required for all classes, call 312-850-5005..
