Frou Frou Drinks Get Their Day in the Sun

Craft the perfect tropical cocktail at Cooking Fools' festive mixology class

The Singapore Sling. The Zombie. The Sumatra Kula. No, these aren't movie titles being tossed around for Johnny Depp. They're the names of classic tiki cocktails, a distinctly American chapter in the annals of cocktail culture. Learn how to make your favorite frou frou drink at "Cocktail Mixology: No Hula Skirts Required," a festive hands-on session at Cooking Fools, the Wicker Park culinary company, on Wednesday, July 29.

You'll be treated to samples of such throwback cocktails as the Beachcomber while hearing how to make your own from Cooking Fools' resident mixologist, Angie Jackson. (You'll also get a mini history lesson on these exotic concoctions that became popular in the tiki-crazed 1940s and '50s when servicemen returned from World War II.) Chef Nick Faitage will serve paired appetizers during this fun, interactive class, which will be held on Cooking Fools' spacious rooftop patio (weather permitting, no heels allowed).

The "Cocktail Mixology: No Hula Skirts Required" class will go from 6:30-9PM and costs $50 per person to attend. Call 773-276-9377 to reserve your spot.
