A South Side building with several popular businesses was destroyed by fire early Thursday morning.

The two story building, at 4655 S. King Dr., housed Blu 47 restaurant, The Spoken Word Cafe, Steele Life Gallery, the Consulate General of Jamaica and an Uncle Joe's jerk chicken restaurant that was soon scheduled to open.

Officials said it was too early to determine a cause for the fire.

Blu 47 was a popular happy hour and dinner spot for young professionals. An event was held at the restaurant Wednesday evening.

The owners of the businesses could not be reached for comment.
