    Yes, the our nation's current economic situation needs to be discussed, debated and dissected, but, hey, you still have to eat. Fuel up for a state-of-the-economy panel discussion at North Pond's "Feeding Economic Indicators" dinner at 6PM on Wednesday, March 18.

    An A-list expert panel has been brought together for this unique event, featuring Bruce Carruthers, a professor in Northwestern University's department of sociology, David Greising, chief business correspondent for the Chicago Tribune, Paul Kasriel, senior VP and director of economic research for Northern Trust Bank, and Charles Whelan, a lecturer at the Harris School of Public Policy at the University of Chicago. This esteemed team will share their informed take on our current economic state with guests. One can only expect a, shall we say, spirited conversation.

    Before the panel discussion, North Pond will serve a 1929-style dinner menu replete with timely innuendoes. (We're guessing the menu comes from the pre-stock market crash glory days.) Starting the dinner will be the "North Pond Bathtub Gin Cocktail," paired with a 1929 condiment plate. The first course is a consomme royal with wild rice, mushrooms and bacon. A Waldorf salad with candied beets will be served next, followed by an entree of lobster and quail served "a la King" style with sage root vegetables and puff pastry. A sweet finishing touch is the pineapple-toasted almond upside-down cake with vanilla custard and sorbet.     Now, this is an economic stimulus plan we can get behind. And, there's no pork in sight.
