First there was More, then there was L.A.-based Sprinkles, and even more recently, we got a taste of NYC Bakery Crumbs. But now, the original New York City cupcake contender, (the one in West Village where lines form down the street) is also trying its sweet hand in Chicago.
Magnolia Bakery, the 15-year old cupcake company favored by celebs (it's also been featured on TV, including a scene in Sex and the City) is opening up its first Chicago store inside the Loop's relatively new space Block 37. The cupcake shop is slated for a late summer 2011 opening.
Besides those infamous, sugary sweet cakes with buttercream frosting, expect to see an assortment of other treats at the bakery, including their also-famous banana pudding, cookies, cakes and specialties like Strawberry Icebox Cake.
The Chicago store opening will be the 7th location for the bakery, which has 4 locations in NYC, one in L.A. and one in Dubai.
