Rockit Ranch Adds A New Restaurant

Sunda set to open in late February

The highly-anticipated opening of the new restaurant by the team responsible for Rockit Bar & Grill and Underground is coming soon. The new Asian-themed restaurant, Sunda, is tentatively set to open on or around Feb. 27 at 110 W. Illinois St.

Two years ago, Rockit Ranch partners Billy Dec, Brad Young, Arturo Gomez amd Sunda Executive Chef Rodelio Aglibot traveled to Asia to start developing the concept.

"We wanted to create a restaurant that not only stood out in Chicago's culinary world and offered a delicious Asian journey that cannot be found in the any other Asian restaurant in the city, but also further establish Chicago as the premier dining destination in America and the world," said Dec in a news release announcing the opening.

Sunda is a group of islands in southeast Asia -- which makes sense, because the restaurant gets its inspiration from that region, plus Japan and China.

As for the food itself, the New Asian cuisine is meant to be shared, and includes dishes such as Crab-Crusted Ahi Tuna with Japanese Hot Mustard Soy Glaze and Malay-Style Chilean Sea Bass with Coriander. A full sushi bar will also be available.

Pictures of the interior have not been released, but reknowned designer Tony Chi is responsible for the space. It includes a main dining room, a cocktail lounge, sushi bar and a private dining area -- in all, seating for more than 200 guests.
