A Grape Weekend for Winos

Two wine festivals highlight weekend events

Wine enthusiasts rejoice -- there's a couple of really good options to sip vino in the sun this weekend.

The 5th annual Windy City Wine Festival kicked off Friday and continues Saturday from 3 to 10 p.m.

It's all going down at Grant Park's Daley Bicentennial Plaza with more than 250 international and domestic wine varietals provided by more than 40 vendors.

Check off your favorites and purchase bottles on location from Binny's and talk to the winemakers and learn about the wine itself, but do it early -- a couple of hours in and things get a little less coherent. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door,

If you're looking for more of a party atmosphere, check out the Old Town Wine Crush on Saturday and Sunday.

The wine, music and comedy festival takes place right on Wells Street in Old Town, between North and Schiller.

Two live music stages will be set up, along with art vendors and a cooking demo stage, but don't miss the grape stomping competition at 1:45 p.m. each day.

The Gin Blossoms close headline on Saturday night at 8 p.m. ($7 suggested donation).
