Gwen Stefani latched on to it for an album, tour and her Harajuku Lovers clothing and fragrance line. Madonna has toyed with the idea from time to time. And few people really can replicate it. We're talking about the unique, colorful world of Asian street fashion, which is a culture all its own. In honor of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, Macy's and the Center for Asian Arts and Media at Columbia College Chicago will feature an exhibition and special event delving into Asian street fashion, as well as Asian wedding culture.
On Thursday, May 21, Macy's State Street store will host a panel of local Asian American cultural and fashion experts discussing the cultural background and contemporary updates of Asian weddings. Images of urban street scenes, where trendsetters continue to inspire fashionistas across the globe, will also be on view during the event, and light hors d'oeuvres will be served. Party-goers are encouraged to dress in their best Asian street fashion style, and the best dressed guest will win a goodie bag. The Center for Asian Arts and Media will present an exhibition, "Double Happiness: Asian/American Weddings" and "Everyday Runway: Asian Street Fashion and Beyond."
The event will take place at 5:30PM on Macy's 7th floor, where the special exhibition will also be presented through Thursday, May 28.
