What a difference a year makes.
Last year at about this time, designer Christina Fan was prepping clothes for the Fresh Faces fashion show during Chicago's Fashion Focus. This week she's getting the last-minute details together for the granddady of them all, Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week.
"I think it's a great opportunity," Fan says. "Rather than to show for the first time at a huge show, I'm going a different route and showing to traditional media outlets along with non-traditional, so for me as a brand, it's an introduction to that media world and industry."
Fan, a Northwestern grad who majored in history, followed her true love and launched C/Fan in 2008.
On Sunday, she'll showcase her Spring 2011 collection.
"C/Fan has always been about draping and versatile basic pieces with different ways you can wear them. This collection is more of that, along with a custom photo print on each piece," Fan says.
Chictopia's mission is to find the next biggest talent in fashion and design, and four other designers will be showcased along with Fan. But despite the enormity of being involved in the biggest fashion week in the universe, Fan remains relatively calm.
"Every single event or shoot that comes out, each one I look at as a great achievement. I don't really look at any one thing as better than any other. Everything is worth the same at the end," Fan says.
Fan is currently a Designer in Residence with the Chicago Fashion Incubator.
